IT'S THEIR CALL -- by Steve Nadis

I realize that if columnists did not butt into other people’s affairs, they might not have much to talk about. Still I think that Joan Vennochi's column in yesterday's Boston Globe (March 25, 2007) went too far in suggesting that John Edwards should pull the plug on his presidential campaign and focus, instead, on being “a husband.” The decision that John and Elizabeth Edwards have made is an intensely private one, despite the fact that for obvious reasons it had to be made public. I don’t claim to know any more about it than Vennochi or the other pundits casting their two cents worth, but I still believe there’s something to be said for going forward with one’s plans, carrying on in the face of disease if that’s at all possible, rather than making the disease, itself, the focus of life. If that’s what John and Elizabeth Edwards had in mind, I applaud their decision. If they pressed forward for other reasons, I applaud that choice as well. It’s theirs to make.

1 - Hear, hear! It's presumptuous of Venocchi to assume that John Edwards cares more about running for president than about helping his wife through her illness. And from what we've seen of the couple, it seems more likely that John offered to end his campaign and Elizabeth insisted he go on with it.

But without any evidence as to how the Edwards made their decision, Venocchi's assumption that Elizabeth Edwards is the helpless victim of her husband's ambitions is just plain patronizing. Or should I say "matronizing?" (Comment this)

2 - Hear, hear, Gatemouth! I agree with you agreeing with me agreeing with you. And I like the word "matronizing." Perhaps another term coined right here at "Call Me Snake," which is just another reason why we did this thing called blogging. (Comment this)

3 - As someone who has been single for most of her life, it is difficult for me to "know" how married couples interact, but I think it is safe to assume that winning the Presidency has been a joint goal of the Edwards for years. So it doesn't surprise me in the least that they are pressing on with the campaign. I think I would have been disappointed if he had pulled out. It would have made her appear to be one of those dreaded weak women that need men to take care of them. (Comment this)

4 - 一 How to Properly Enjoy World of Warcraft

1. Choose a server type that’s right for you. the server you select will be one you complain about until Character Transfers are allowed, so choose wisely.
2. Give your character a unique name. Be sure to stand out from the other Sephiroths and Thralls that probably play on your server, please try to choose a name that is extremely difficult to type out. If they can't type out your name, they can't add you to their ignore list.
3. Choose a class that suits you.
4. Ask Plenty of Stupid Questions!
5. Make your Numbers as high as possible. The larger that number is, the more unplayable your character is.
6. The only profitable tradeskill is being a female. Play as a girl. Do not ever, EVER, even hint that you are male unless you dislike getting free gold from desperate nerds.
7. Be patriotic. Part of the fun of World of Warcraft is the tension caused by having two warring factions. Play into this as much as possible to heighten your enjoyment of the game and the enjoyment of everyone around you.
8. Lay Down the Law in Duels. When you duel someone, you are giving them your valuable time. They should, therefore, be happy to consent to a fight on your terms, so don't hold back out of politeness.
9. Play things the way *you* wish to. This advice is not only suited to having a good time, but also economical.
10. Create a good group. Most of the expert, advanced content relies on being in a balanced group of 5 or more people. A balanced group should consist of a Hunter, Three Rogues and a “Utility” player, such as a healer or a Tank.
11. Be sure to announce everything you do with macros. Communication is the most important thing in your relationships with the group. Casting Flash Heal is one thing.
12. Never accept fault for anything.

7 - Agree with your endorsement of the Edwards decision. Only they know why they are going forward and it sure isn't up to anyone to second guess them. (Comment this)
