DREAM JOURNAL: YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN — AND AGAIN by Steve Nadis
The title of Thomas Wolfe’s excellent novel notwithstanding, you can go home again. In my dream last night, I was driving on the highway, supposedly heading north of Boston, when the city’s familiar skyline came into view. Apparently I had turned around and come back downtown. Later in the dream, as I was driving out of town again, I somehow ended up in the city again. So Wolfe appears to have been wrong, at least so far as my dreamlife is concerned.
In a separate chapter last night, I was watching a new comedy starring Jerry Lewis. (France take heed! Jerry is back!) One scene in the movie was supposed to be set at a beach in my hometown near Chicago. The bluffs above the beach looked about right, but the hills beyond were way too big and I realized it must have been shot in L.A. instead. Still for a short while, at least in a fictitious movie in a fictitious dream, the Jerry of my childhood had come home again too.

Your dream represents a deep-seated fear of driving north. However, if you rearrange the seats and controls of your car according to the rules of feng shui, you should be able to achieve a more harmonic balance with your inner driver and be at one with all points of the compass. Then all you’ll have to fear is traffic itself.
Hope that helps.
Thanks doc, I mean gatemouth, for the diagnosis. I feared it was something like that.
There’s nothing more self-indulgent than writing about your dreams. Why should anyone else on earth care?
You got me there, anon. I really can’t answer that question other than to say that, on some level, blogging is a self-indulgent exercise, though occasionally it can rise to the level of interest to other people. Apparently not in this case. But please give me three strikes before calling for the firing squad.

P.S. WINDY CITY ( CONNECTING PEOPLE)
Hello Z — Yes, Jerry is still live & kicking but not too active on the movie front (except of course in my dream). Dean passed awhile back but Jerry has come out with a book on their relationship. Yes, I too spent my formative years in Chicago though I must have missed the newspaper article to which you refer.
