JAMES BAKER–THE SAVOIR? by Steve Nadis

For weeks, there has been great anticipation, fueled by endless media speculation, about the Iraq Study Group, whose findings were released today. There’s always been the hope that “daddy,” in the form of James Baker, would step in and save the day–and clean up the mess created by Bush and his cronies.

But wait a minute! Wasn’t Baker the person who got us in this mess in the first place? Didn’t he serve as the big bully who put the fix on in the Supreme Court that helped get W (his friend’s son) into the White House when the results of the 2000 election were in dispute? He used intimidation and tough-guy tactics to thrust the unqualified Bush into the presidency. Now we’re seeing the results of those actions. And now Baker has been called in to clean up the mess.

Am I the only one that thinks a “report” is not going to get us out of this mess? A “report” can be ignored or implemented selectively. What we really need is an impeachment to get W out of office or at the very least, someone should take him over their knee and give him a good spanking followed by a time-out until all of our troops are home safely.

    I agree, OR. I agree.

  3. gatemouth says:

Much as I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see Bush impeached, I agree with the pundits who say impeachment would be more harmful than helpful at this point. The proceedings would take nearly as long as the rest of his term, which means we wouldn’t get rid of him any sooner. And many if not most Americans would view impeachment proceedings as just some kind of petty payback by the Democrats, which would probably cost the Democrats some seats in the next election, maybe even swing the majority back to the Republicans. And we sure as hell don’t want that!

I think the best we can hope for now is that Bush’s failures get so well documented that even the people who voted for him will realize he was never anything but an ignorant, boneheaded bully who put the entire world at risk to satisfy his juvenile “war president” fantasies. In fact, I propose a new monument–Mt. Dumbmore–where we carve the faces of the worst presidents in U.S. history and include a dunce cap on each one.

  4. Snake says:

I like that, Gatemouth. I hope to be there for the opening of that new National Monument.

  5. Marco Polo says:

    So…. what were these “Findings”?

  6. Snake says:

I’m sure we can read more about this report–including the report itself–than we care to.

  7. Marco Polo says:

?? Not the answer I expected, as these findings will influence what the next ‘moves’ are- upon which lives of more soldiers hinge on… but I realize it wasn’t the ‘thrust’ of your Posting. ;)
Say…Interesting how the phenomena I previously mentioned to you continues. (An inside joke, everyone. The 1st person to ‘comment’ after me wins a prize!)

  8. Marco Polo says:

    Followup: Today’s Netscape “headline:”
Top News- Coalition Forces Kill 20 Insurgents

    Maybe it SHOULD read:
Top News- Occupation Forces Slaughter 28 Freedom Fighters

By the way, I didn’t think there was much of a ‘Coalition’
    force left to speak of.

  9. Snake says:

I’ve always found that term “coalition” suspect–a way of suggesting we’re not the only ones stupid enough to do this. By the way, it looks like you win the prize, MP. Congrats!

  10. marken polen says:

And the ‘pot’ grows bigger! I’ll have to add a SHORT, fluff comment- quickly- to the next “contoversial” Item you post. ;)

  11. Snake says:

You’re getting so obscure MP I’m afraid I lost the drift…

  12. Marcus Polus says:

HA! Quite simply, the Prize pot grows bigger (as I won the prize back) hence to properly distribute,
I must make it more likely someone (besides you) will post after ME! [That thinkin cap U use had a snap torn! :)~ ]
The prize? A CUTE, little chubby man w/dog [whose face has a striking resemblance to dub'yah] You squeeze ‘im & the dog barks “Raq!” Squeeze ‘im too hard & the teenie rifle he holds pings the nearest ‘Dem’ in the room.
