A TRUST BETRAYED — by Steve Nadis

James Webb was effective last night in his Democratic response to George Bush’s State of the Union address. He said that he and other members of his family, as well as soldiers across the U.S. and over the generations, have enlisted in the military because they love their country. But they must trust that their leaders will exercise wisdom and not enter or start wars recklessly. On that score, which is a huge one, Bush has failed miserably. He and his cohorts lied repeatedly to get us into a needless war that has led to the deaths of thousands of American soldiers and 10 to 100 times more dead Iraqis. This is not just an example of flawed foreign policy; it’s an act of criminal misguidance of the highest proportions.

  1. I agree. I’ve served as a Soldiers’ Angel for quite awhile. It is very sad to read our soldiers’ plight in Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, on the ground, in the air, and on ships. Many of the men and women I personally have supported come from limited circumstances trying to better themselves. I feel that Bush and his cohorts are taking advantage of their situation. The dollar amounts that they are given as “bonuses” to reenlist and the separations from their children and family are pathetic. I’d like to see some of these warmongers get off their asses and expose themselves on a hourly basis to IEDS or live in a camp called “Mortaritaville” from all the daily mortar. Maybe THEY’D like to suffer from no baths, no shower shoes, not enough food, stifling heat. I wonder how long this war would last then.

So what do we do NOW?
Sunniland, Shi’iteville & Kurdistan. I’m sure some generals can come up with the optimum “Parallels”. Some barbed wire, a several contingents of UN Security forces at the new ‘borders’ & Boom, you’re done.
Well…not quite that easy, but ya get my drift.
(Of course, I’m not ruling out trendy clothing offers)

… I’m still laughing at the metrosexual references…

The thing is, marco, they don’t understand “boarders”, not in the way the western world does. Think of the way the Native Americans held land. It’s alot like that. Mix that with the fanaticism and disregard for their own lives (when committed to a cause), and you kinda of get a feel why many passionately hated Saddam, and yet others still fight for him after his hanging.

But the question is, what do we do know? If you care to look on my blog, I had a solution similar to what you have suggested, but the time for that has come and gone. The smartest thing we can do right now is establish two perminant encampments (like Germany or Korea) of at least two brigades apiece; one in Kurdistan and one in Kuwait. Everyone else leaves… except for Special Ops, Iraqi Army Advicery Detachments (MiTT Teams), and CIA. Our troops, for the most part will be safe, but Iraq will not be.

There will then be Civil War. And to the victor, the spoils… and every dollar we have invested in that country. In MY humble opinion, you want to win this conflict, then ironically, you’ve got to get out of it. Place your bets, gentlement, and let the big wheel spin…

Thanks for the comments, WFW, MP, & GS. We got ourselves into a situation (kind of like ’s _ _ _ creek’) with no good way out.
