PLEASE DON’T GOOGLE ME — by Steve Nadis

A week or so ago I had an ill-advised post for which I took considerable (well-deserved) heat. I was hoping the thing would blow over but my friends at GOOGLE won’t cut me any slack. It’s the first thing that comes up under my name. I’m hoping to move on, put the whole thing behind me, but GOOGLE won’t let me. Come on guys, give me a break, please? As the Rodney once said: “Can’t we all get along?”

Ah… excuse, me Snake, but since ALL Your posts are signed “– by Steve Nadis”, why would that dis-ing of Muslim “headwear” make the HEADLINE spot?
(I relate to your frustration Re: Google. Seems I got in a LOT of heat w/ my boss- when a Website I joined “created” an “Organization page” :O for an insulting mis-spelling of his establishment which I’d entered in a backwater Profile ‘additional info’ section, under ‘Place of Work’.
I’d erred when I entered his real Website address as well.
Typing in this [our store] website to Google brought up a Banner proclaiming the “Shaft” version of his establishment.
Google said they “can’t do anything about it” & to eliminate the offending Page of this Site I joined.
The “Staff” at this Site seemed un/ill-equipped to know HOW to delete it & said “Geez We TRIED….Sorry ’bout that”

It DID vanish from the Google search page…after 2 MONTHS!
Moral: Don’t EVER enter info on-line that might link ya to something nasty. -Marco Polo

Thanks MP for that cautionary tale. Sounds like I’m screwed.

If I remember correctly, Google ranks links by popularity and frequency. In other words, the more sites that link to a particular page, and the more people who click on that link, the closer to the top of the search results that link will be.

So the solution is to post something so wildly popular or controversial that the old “offending” post will get bumped down in the search results. My suggestion? Something headlined “Paris Hilton and Snake.” It would be about your nice stay at the Paris Hilton Hotel, of course, but I’m sure it would get a lot of clicks and links from other sites.

Great idea, Gatemouth. Do you mind booking me a room?
