HAMLET TOO — by Steve Nadis
I got hit in the side by a handball a couple of weeks ago, and it still hurts like hell. Last night it hurt even more because I was laughing so hard watching HAMLET 2, starring the hilarious Steve Coogan. It may be the funniest movie I’ve seen since The Full Monty, yet it did not get great reviews and I don’t think it did well at the box office. People I’ve mentioned it too haven’t even heard of the movie before. I think that’s a shame because this is one funny movie and they’re not many of those. When one comes along, it deserves an audience. Though this one is not for the little kids…

Isn’t that the one where Hamlet comes to his ex-lover’s house, drunk, at 4 in the morning & yells up to her, “Ah decide Not t’ Be! F&%# the morta coils.”
No… wait, I’m confusing it with Romeo & Juliet II.

I haven’t seen that one yet. Sounds promising… S
I liked it too. I thought it was an interesting take on the Dead Poets Society idea where, instead of the teacher saving the kids, the kids save the teacher.
Good point, GM. There were many references to Dead Poets in the film but I hadn’t thought of that tie-in. Actually I didn’t really think at all because I was laughing too hard… –S
One of the most subversive comedies to come out of the independent film industry. Coogan really carries the movie (who knew he could?). I gave it two thumbs up (if I had more thumbs I would have given them as well… but if I had more thumbs… would I have been able to type this?) I digress. It’s a shame this film was not widely distributed and recognized.
I agree FW. Three thumbs up from me too! –S
