THE AX(E) FALLETH — by Steve Nadis

Given the state of the newspaper business, it was only a matter of time before I got a call from the editor of a paper for whom I write a column to say something along the lines of: “How’d you like to keep doing what you’ve been doing for years, only instead of getting paid for your work,  now you get to do it for free?”

Given the state of my bargaining position these days, my response was a predictable “sounds good.”

Reminds me of an old addage that my father used to say: “Opinions are like assholes. Everybody’s got one.”

It would appear that today’s world of journalism is filled with assholes. I say that its good that your getting out. Might I suggest raising the bar?
